With so many single parent families, these days it shouldn't be so surprising to us that there is an increasing demand for male nannies. Many children need more exposure to good male role models, especially during their early formative years. Typically, we tend to see more male schoolteachers in the later years of a child's education. This probably happens because teachers receive better pay in the higher grades of school.

Since you are able to receive about $25 per hour for this occupation, it is really worth looking into. Many professional people are able to pay this, (and more) per hour for a trustworthy caring nanny. I have an acquaintance that has done this for many years and he travels a great deal, seeing most of the world with his employer's family. He just cares for one child and is paid very well, to teach and help raise a high paid executive's son.

If this truly interests you, you will need to have worked with children already and have first aid and CPR training. You can usually take these classes at your local Red Cross, or at local adult education or colleges. If you can put a small portfolio together, include pictures, and reference letters from former families that you have worked for, this is an excellent way to reassure future families of your abilities and character. The more references you have the better. If you may have babysat in the past for just a few hours, several times for a family, be sure and include these. Even families that you may have offered to help-out and not charge for your time, these can be great references also.

Once you have a good portfolio together, start finding your local nanny agencies, make appointments with them, and work hard at signing up with their agency. They will find you the job openings that you are looking for. You can also read the advertisements in your local newspapers and check online agencies that have job openings in this field. It shouldn't take you long to find a good paying job.

If you prefer to, you could even open your own agency, placing male nannies with families that would like their services. This could be a lot of fun, if you have a good business mind, and can encourage men to try this as a career choice. Do be aware of the fact though that you will need to be able to pass a strong background check to assure families that the nanny they hire can be trusted with their child.
