Design Graphics for Clothing

Many people have an artistic talent of some sort. Some people paint, some draw, others write. Some artists keep their talents as just a hobby they enjoy in their spare time, but some take it to the next level and pursue a career with their talents. Those people are usually more likely to stick with their career choice, and enjoy it much more than any other path they could have chosen.

If you are a skilled pen or pencil artist, or graphic designer, you have a wide variety of career paths to choose from. You can work on staff somewhere as an employee, become self-employed, or start up your own business. You could even do a mixture of those things if your schedule allows for it. One of the many things you will always have is many options in your career and even your projects.

One of those paths you may enjoy could be designing graphics for clothing. There are a few ways you can go down this course. Here are a few examples to give you some ideas:

Artist for Silkscreen Printers:

Silk screeners print art on all of their clothing and sell it. Someone somewhere creates that artwork that?s printed. Sometimes it?s someone on staff with the company, but sometimes the business will use other artists as contractors or freelancers. Even if they have an artist on staff, they may still need a freelancer to call on during work overloads, employee vacation time, etc. This also goes the same for tattoo parlors. Someone creates the artwork that is etched onto someone?s body. It?s usually the tattoo artist that creates this artwork, but some will buy other?s work.

If this sounds like something, you would like to do, take some steps to get started. Create a portfolio with your best work, and bring it around to your local printing shops. You should call ahead of time and make an appointment to speak with someone face-to-face and show off your skills.

Open up Your Own Silkscreen Printing Store:

If you have the money to invest (or to get a loan), you can open up your own silkscreen store and sell your own clothing with your designs. To get started in this area, begin with a well thought out and detailed business plan.

Sell Online:

This may be the most popular option for artists, because it is the most convenient and lenient. You can create your own website and various online stores. You can go through places like Yahoo Stores, EBay Stores, etc. Some of those will cost some money for hosting your store, but may be worth it if your business is successful. Another option is Cafe Press. It is a great way to show off your skills, and they take care of all the printing and shipping themselves. You just upload your artwork to your choice of their clothing that you want it on. You can choose the free version or invest a little in the premium option. Here are some links to get you started:
