They Learn As You Earn

They Learn as You Earn

Tom is different from other teachers. What he teaches is different. The way he teaches is different. He enjoys imparting knowledge and earning from it. He is happy and so are his pupils.

Is he really a teacher? Well, at least not a regular stereotype teacher we know of. He is unique and others envy him for that.

Here is a list of teaching jobs that Tom undertakes:

1. Job skills tutor
2. Tutor for moneymaking skills
3. Tutoring elementary students through college
4. Tutor for SAT exam preparation
5. Coach for swimming lessons at home

All the skills, that Tom teaches, are in good demand.

Whereas some of these jobs require only basic knowledge about the subject, others (like swimming instructor) require some level of expertise. So make your selection based on what your abilities and interests are. You can also offer tutor services for more than one subject.

You could teach resume/cover letter making skills. This could include things like 'preparing your first cover letter', 'Job targeting', 'Keyword oriented resume' etc. You could supply a free guide of 'Job searching tips' as a bonus to your customers. This guide can simply be a two page print-out providing tips and resources for job hunting. Most of the skills required for this job can be learned through free material available on the Internet.

Another service could be - teaching soft skills e.g. communication skills, presentation making, stress management, people skills, participating in group discussions, time management and other job related skills. This is an ideal teaching job for someone who has already been through all of this in his or her job. You just need to recollect your experiences from the past, create case studies and role-plays, add some additional learning material to it and you are ready. You can also get some role-play videos, etc. from institutes that provide such courses. In fact, you could even be affiliated to one of these institutes.

Teaching 'Money making' is another good business. You can give tips on

a) What jobs people can take up for moneymaking!

b) How they can manage their money!

c) Tax related tips!

d) Bargain hunting tips etc!

You can prepare a guide on moneymaking and give that away as a bonus.

You could also tutor elementary students, using some new and innovative methods. You could use various tricks/games/puzzles for making education fun for kids. You could also give incentives for each of their accomplishments.

Tip: You could use a 'points based incentive system' to encourage faster learning. Here each accomplishment earns some points for the student and these points keep getting accumulated until they reach a certain level and get converted into a gift.

Helping students with their SAT preparation could be another such job. You can either provide just the practice tests or a whole suite of SAT preparation courses. If you are apt at teaching just a particular section (e.g. math or verbal), you could tutor just that section.

Tip: You could also make and sell SAT practice tests to local SAT preparation centers or service providers.

The resources section, at the end of this article, will help you with all these jobs.

Advertise your services in local newspapers and by posting flyers to bulletin boards at laundry mats, student hostels, colleges, etc. Where you advertise will be dependent on what teaching job(s) you have taken up. Also, print and distribute attractive brochures at job/career fairs.

So make your selection of teaching job and get started.
