Puzzle Art

Puzzle Art

Have you ever sat at a table on a dreary, rainy day and enjoyed the calming pleasure of piecing together a puzzle? Do you have fond memories of piecing together puzzles with parents or grandparents? Remember the excitement and joy you experienced when you found those vital corner pieces and the feeling of accomplishment you felt when you put that final piece in place? Well, chances are that many other people have those same fond memories too!

You will start a business creating puzzles out of art for collectors and other puzzle enthusiasts to purchase.

Your first option for artwork, when creating puzzles, would be pieces of art that are no longer copyrighted. Most pieces of artwork created before the year 1977 are no longer copyrighted after approximately twenty-seven years have passed, unless their copyright has been renewed. Always err on the side of caution when it comes to copyrighting laws though. Being sued would certainly affect your profit margin. You can also create your own beautiful, original works of art. That is the great thing about puzzles; whether the image is a museum quality piece or a duplicated crayon drawing, assembling the image is still a fun and interesting challenge! Art collectors and puzzle aficionados alike will enjoy your products!

You can also offer to put photos of your customers' children or other current or vintage family photos onto a jigsaw puzzle. Relatives always love to receive pictures of children as they grow up. Having these photos on a puzzle is a more interesting choice than just your average wallet size photograph. You could even create puzzles based on a favorite piece of artwork created by their small child. This would open up a completely new customer base for you since these kinds of sentimental images would make excellent keepsakes and gifts for friends and relatives.

You could also offer to create puzzles with a company's logo or insignia printed on them to be used as promotional items. Miniature puzzles printed with a couple's photo would make excellent wedding or shower favors, as would a newborn or sonogram photo.

There are several styles of cutting when it comes to the creation of puzzles. You can cut them in a traditional grid design, a radial grid, and any other shapes that you can come up with to make your puzzles completely unique and unlike anyone else's. There are several popular choices of materials to work with as well when it comes to creating a puzzle. You can create your design on paperboard, solid wood, foam, compressed wood, and other surfaces. Decide how many different choices that you can practically offer your customers. This will give them more to choose from and also keep your job of constructing new and interesting puzzles from becoming monotonous.

You should create a website to display examples of puzzles you have created and provide samples of artwork that customers can choose to have a puzzle created out of. You can also show examples of puzzles in different sizes. This will also give you the opportunity to provide your customers with a list of prices. If you are able to offer puzzles made out of different materials, you can also show photo examples of each piece of artwork printed on the different surfaces. The more photos that you are able to offer your potential customers, the better!

You should also be sure to register your website with several search engines and also with sites that list puzzle makers, such as Custom Puzzle Craft.
