Write Slogans For Greeting Cards

Write Slogans for Greeting Cards

Do you have a knack for funny, inspirational, or interesting verses?

Do you pick up greeting cards, and think, "I could write that!"? Have you ever created your own holiday cards or greeting cards for family members or friends which garnered you praise on your writing skills? If so, and even if you are newly interested in the idea of writing greeting cards, this article is for you.

As long as there are holidays, there will always be a market for holiday greeting cards. There are so many card giving occasions, including the most popular, Christmas, Easter, St. Patrick's Day, Valentine's Day, New Year's Day, Father's Day, Mother's Day, Thanksgiving, Cinco de Mayo, Independence Day, Halloween, etc. And don't forget about cards needed for graduations, thank you, sympathy, birthdays, 1st day of school, new baby, get well, showers, weddings, and other celebrations. Do a web search and you'll find plenty of other holidays and occasions to write about, such as Grandparent's day, Friendship day, and many more.

Writing slogans for greeting cards can be a lucrative market. Just like anything else in the writing world, you must study the markets (using references such as writer's guidelines), and compete with other talented writers - some who are very talented and some who are not. That means a lot of hard work, research, and persistence - probably the most important trait a freelance writer can have. The greeting card business is a huge, multi-billion dollar industry. A small fraction of that money goes to the writers that get their creative prose printed on the cards. There are more than 1000 card publishers, and some even have online writer's guidelines telling you how to submit your words for consideration. Some only publish in certain genres, such as religious, inspirational, humor, sincere, etc.

With the new E-cards on the web, I imagine that this market will continue to grow considerably over the next several years. Payment can vary anywhere from $5 - $150 and up, depending on the publisher. Some publishers will only accept one verse idea at a time for consideration, and some will accept multiple ideas all at the same time. Some want it sent via snail mail on an index card or standard paper, while others want your idea or ideas sent via email for consideration. You'll find this, and other important information in the publisher's writer's guidelines (sometimes called submissions guidelines)., such as payment, rights, etc. Study the guidelines and follow them to the letter. You will already have a better chance of getting accepted and paid for if you simply follow the publisher's directions and advice in the guidelines.

The more prominent and profitable greeting card publishers are Hallmark, American Greetings, and Gibson Greetings. However, there are many more out there; more than 1,000!
